Creatives: What do you desire immensely?

Chile_8631 .jpeg

What do you want so freakin’ much it kinda hurts?

What do you long for?

I believe the universe is constantly giving us breadcrumbs, little hints, but are we paying attention?

Are we receiving them?

Or are our heads down, following someone else's playbook?

I believe it is our job to follow our own unique path.

And the more I learn about human design, the more it validates this truth.

Unfortunately, society taught us how to follow.

So most of us must go through a process of letting go (de-conditioning) of what we were TAUGHT we should do before we get the guts to go after what we whole-heartedly want.

THAT is the bravest thing we can each do, btw…

To be SO brutally honest with ourselves about what we really freakin’ want.

To get a bit closer, it may help to ask:

  • What creative thing, project or epic goal does it kind of sting when you see someone doing it or achieving it?

Consider it a sign.

A signal from the Universe.

For example, when I was in my twenties and had a lucrative, pretty cushy art-director agency job for over 6 years, but I kept feeling this “crazy” urge to travel to Latin America solo for an extended period of time.

It was a quite subtle desire at first.

At that time, if I saw or read about someone doing something similar, I would feel a twinge of jealousy. (A small sign!)

Then it got stronger and stronger.

Then it was like a steady stream of desire in my heart.

Consistent.

Unrelenting.

I started a savings account for my trip before I even mentioned this desire to a soul.

I started saving automatically each paycheck.

Over several months, I started researching places and making a mental road map of bucket-list places and hikes that I wanted to do in Latin America.

Pieces slowly starting coming together in my mind.

Then I found a language school that had school locations in a few of my top countries in South America, because 10 years ago becoming fluent in Spanish was No.1 on my bucket list.

I remember even 6-months before I even told my boss, it all became real when I put in a several thousand dollar deposit to take the immersive classes in 4 different countries in South America.

I vividly remember the school taking my payment information out in the hallway of my old job.

I had barely told 3 people, but at that point, the adventure had a life of its own!

The deposit sealed the deal.

I shed a few private, quiet tears of joy in the hallway.

It was HAPPENING.

I knew it in my bones.

I told my boss & co-workers shortly after with plenty of time for them to prepare.

They were super supportive.

Everything was happening, but nothing felt rushed.

It was perfect.

And I left in a way that felt super positive.

What I didn't know was, a few months after I left, the agency lost one of it's bread-and-butter clients and the doors were closed and several people lost their jobs.

Luckily, I had been saving the whole time, so I was prepared.

Divine timing, indeed.

And on the trip, I went to Mexico, Chile, Argentina and Peru, hiked in Patagonia and of course, became *finally* fluent in Spanish after struggling to learn it for a decade.

It was an amazing, life-changing time, to say the very least

What I want to share with you is, this is what happens when:

  • We listen to our intuition – even when it seems crazy

  • We let ourselves gently be pulled by our desires that don’t look like anyone else's

  • We *finally* say yes to the things that keep coming up for us

  • We allow ourselves to let go we see what life has to teach us

It requires trust.

Faith.

Brutal Honesty.

And being brave enough to say YES to your life and where it wants to take you.

  • Where have you been getting the call?

  • Where do you feel a gentle tug?

  • What do you keep noticing?

  • What do you love immersing yourself in?

Listen, my friend.

Watch for the breadcrumbs.

No need to force it.

You may be getting clues about your next best step…

Like, maybe you want to take the leap and start doing your own thing!

OR, you’re getting clues about the next big adventure of your life.

Whatever it is, give yourself permission to take action, especially when it feels crazy.
