Using Improv to Become a Better Version of Yourself, with Clay Drinko.
Clay Drinko, PhD is an improv expert, a multi passionate creative and author of “Play Your Way Sane,” a book that I’m going to buy and hand out like candy.
Clay teaches us how improv principles can change your life for the better, especially if you're creative.
He believes in improv so much, he got a PhD to study the flow state he found while doing improv.
We chat about how as a result, he realized something MAJOR that we can all relate to: Studying something and knowing about it intellectually is totally different from applying the principles to your daily life.
So if you’re a super intellectual like Clay, or my husband, or a perfectionist, or just a human and you struggle to get out of your head or lighten up, you may want to buy Clay’s book, Play Your Way Sane.
It includes plenty of games and exercises that actually helped him get out of his head and into play, into our creative brain and flow.
So THAT we can each start having fun and gamifying with whatever life throws at us.
Let’s be honest. Life and business is a lot more fun that way, amiright?
I got to see his Creative Morning Field Trip on using improv to get unstuck creatively and I love learning about what states of mind produce creativity and those that don’t, and how to change that.
One example that resonated with me, was giving yourself a floor-is-lava style dramatic false consequence.
Like, your car will catch on fire if you don’t write down 30 ideas for your talk or edit 20 photos.
